  • In 1975, in Northern California, a diverse crew of skateboarders met at a paved embankment under the freeway. They had no idea their underground movement would have a global impact on the world of skateboarding.

  • Their story has never been told. Until now.

  • In 2011, the N-Men’s founder, John O’Shei, finally gave permission to filmmaker James Sweigert to tell their story. Sweigert spent 11 years digging through attics, basements and garages unearthing 86 minutes of never before seen footage and photos of the undocumented Northern California skate scene.

  • One of the N-Men, Don Bostick went on to create the skate and snowboard events for the X-Games for ESPN. Don Bostick also had a hand in helping Tony Hawk and others get skateboarding into the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan for the first time ever.

  • The N-Men have produced three World Champion skateboarders and have influenced many of the best pro skateboarders in the world. They have continued to remain relevant to the sport and to the industry.

  • It was never about fame or fortune, just the pure soul of hardcore skateboarding.

  • The film won multiple awards including Best Picture and Best Director at the LA Independent Film Festival and features interviews from some of the top skateboarders of the past 50 years including Tony Hawk, Tony Alva, Steve Caballero, Christian Hosoi and more.

    John O’Shei is played by actor Josh Brolin.

  • James Sweigert is an independent filmmaker and a Sacramento native. He first saw the N-Men in 1978 when he became a member of Sierra Wave skateboard park in Rancho Cordova. They were the best skateboarders in the park. They charged harder and went bigger than anyone. They were wild. Sweigert saw them at punk shows and skated with them in the 80’s then I lost touch.

    Twenty five years later through social media, Sweigert was able to do a search to see if any of them “were still alive”. Not only did he find them, they were still at it and they had never stopped.

    Sweigert had the honor of working with Stacy Peralta on Hawaiian: Legend of Eddie Aikau, a documentary about the legendary big wave surfer from the North Shore. Stacy saw Sweigert’s N-Men skateboard and they talked about Randy Katen and the N-Men. He told Stacey the crew had kind of raised him, taught him to skate, snowboard and surf. Stacy inspired Sweigert to tell the story of the N-Men from his perspective.

    Sweigert lives in Manhattan Beach with his wife and two Portuguese Water Dogs.
